A Fireside Chat with Anand Giridharadas

The People’s Oceans: Building Sustainability Through Equity and Justice

“How does our privilege insulate us from engaging with the most difficult root causes of inequality and the poverty in which it ensnares people?”

― Anand Giridharadas, Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World

In our quest for ocean sustainability, are we making the same mistakes that got us here in the first place? When problems and solutions continue to be defined by the global elites and market winners, who pays the price and who gets left behind?

Join Ocean Nexus Center Director Yoshitaka Ota and our guest, @anandwrites, on November 9th from 10:30 am – 12pm PT. We’re thrilled to be hosting a critical virtual discussion about changing the world in the face of “well-meaning elites” who preserve the status quo and obscure their role in causing the problems they later seek to solve. Anand will be taking questions from the audience as we explore the myth of win-win solutions, global elitism, and the cost of being left behind in our quest for equitable solutions for ocean sustainability.
