The recent launch of Climate TRACE has put a global spotlight on the importance of transparent, real-time data to advance intelligent action on climate. While quantifying and differentiating country-level emissions is critical, expanding transparency beyond national data reveals new opportunities to slash GHG emissions. Such is especially the case in the oil and gas sector where no two petroleum resources have the same climate footprint. Depending on the nature of the oil or gas and how it is handled, GHG emissions can vary by a factor of ten or more. Using bottom-up process engineering models and top-down satellite measurements, we can create a robust data ecosystem that drives immediate and meaningful action.
