Duties

What you’ll do:

  • Respond to and investigate violations associated with land uses causing impacts to water quality or Chinook salmon habitat. This involves working with the public and possibly dealing with challenging situations. 
  • Participate in water quality improvement teams and monitoring work groups to address pollution in impaired watersheds.
  • Use assessment tools, including GIS and water quality data, to determine priorities in addressing pollution concerns.
  • Represent Ecology in public information and education opportunities for nonpoint source water quality activities.
  • Develop and foster relationships with key interest groups and organizations

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, educational, volunteer and lived-experience. See below for how you may qualify.

Option 1:

Six (6) years of combined education and experience:

  • Experience: In environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning.
  • Education: Involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.

 

Experience may include a combination of the following:
  • Conducting watershed evaluations
  • Working in a regulatory capacity
  • Participating in water quality monitoring projects
  • Understanding agricultural best management practices

Option 2: 

  • Two (2) years of experience in environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning, which may include a combination of experience as described in Option 1.

  • A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.

Option 3: 

  • One (1) year of experience in environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning, which may include a combination of experience as described in Option 1. 

  • A Master’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.

Option 4:

  • A Ph.D. in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: 

  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s License

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience using mediation tools or techniques, or mediation training.
  • GIS experience or certification
  • Experience or training with water quality sampling
  • Experience providing technical assistance in an agricultural setting
  • Experience working in a regulatory capacity
