Status: Full-Time Position – Hourly

Starting wage is $37,440 annually, DOE, and includes paid medical insurance, sick, holiday, and vacation pay. General hours are 8 am – 4:30 pm M-F, with some Saturdays and evenings as needed.

FISH of Vancouver, a large food pantry at 906 Harney Street in Downtown Vancouver for more than 50 years, is seeking an experienced Volunteer Coordinator to help lead our volunteer efforts. As a nonprofit organization, volunteers are the key to FISH’s success and ability to serve our community. This job includes recruiting, maintaining volunteer schedules, training, reporting, and celebrating our volunteer team. You would work closely with our Operations Manager to fulfill organizational goals in order to serve our community well. Good computer skills and communication skills a must. Higher education preferred.

Responsibilities:

General

Contribute to organization’s overall success by ensuring that FISH has enough volunteers scheduled, trained, and actively volunteering to provide for sufficient hauling, packing and pantry distribution, while maximizing client dignity, food safety, and volunteer experience.

Model and propagate organizational culture centering on client dignity, compassion, and respect.

Recruit

Develop and maintain promotions, materials and outreach for volunteer recruitment using volunteer match sites (VolunteerMatch, Craig’s List, etc) community connections (RSVP, The Columbian, VolunTeen, WSU-V, etc) FISH website and word-of-mouth opportunities. Determine speaking opportunities for presentation about FISH volunteer needs. Determine other avenues for recruitment.

Assign

• Facilitate new volunteer communications – responding to requests via website, email, phone, and in-person. Funnel various volunteers to appropriate roles within the organization.

• Create student or group engagement opportunities, as needed. Oversee scheduling, communication, planning, and implementation of engagements.

• Collaborate among program areas for strategic/effective use of volunteer opportunities i.e., staff tasks that can be transitioned to volunteer roles.

Train

• Determine training needs of each volunteer position.

• Develop formal training program with the assistance of the Operations Manager and team leaders.

• Oversee volunteer trainings as needed for individual program area. This ranges from large group volunteer orientations to structured trainings and testing in more specified roles, i.e., reception, truck driving, etc.

• Conduct annual training of volunteer leadership teams.

• Ensure highest levels of food safety are maintained.

Schedule

• Offer comprehensive training and orientation to new volunteers, including facility tours and introduction to FISH’s mission and values.

• Develop and fill weekly volunteer schedule according to pantry needs and available roles, including hauling, packing, distribution, and special projects.

• Work with volunteers to determine a mutual beneficial schedule for them and FISH.

• Learn and use WhenIWork software to schedule and communicate with volunteers.

• Facilitate community outreach opportunities through volunteer staffing of events to promote FISH and its volunteer program.

• Maintain supplies needed to facilitate volunteer opportunities.

Other

• Oversee special days of service including MLK Jr Day of Service.

• Organize volunteer recognition including events.

• Maintain connection and relationships among individual volunteers and teams.

• Develop and maintain volunteer database.

• Compile monthly data on volunteer numbers and hours.
