Norcross Wildlife Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit operating foundation managing 6,700 acres of wildlife sanctuary land in south-central Massachusetts and engaged in public environmental education programming.
We are seeking candidates to fill a full-time position working as part of our Applied Ecology and Land and Facilities teams with the primary responsibilities of plant identification and botanical inventories, propagation, ecological horticulture design and planting, maintenance, invasive plant removal, and all other duties related to ecological horticulture. This position requires the combination of horticultural and ecological knowledge, hands-on experience, and the ability to undertake the physical labor of the work.
The work is situated in our wildlife sanctuary and is part of a small staff of 10 – ideal for a person looking to do good work in a great environment. Norcross offers a competitive salary and generous benefits including health insurance, paid vacation, holidays, and sick time.
Primary responsibilities include:
Plan and execute plant propagation; coordinate and implement invasive plant species assessment and management; performing biological surveys using a botanical key; building habitat with native plants, including the tasks of planting, transplanting, weeding, mulching, composting, and related activities; seed collection, cleaning, and sowing; assisting with public programming and access, including the maintenance of walking trails and interpretive materials.
This position requires the operation of motor vehicles, equipment, and light machinery, in addition to physical labor.
Appropriate training and experience are required, including a BA or BS degree in Horticulture, Botany, Ecology, or related fields.
