Job Description:

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust is seeking a Restoration Technician responsible for on-the-ground implementation of habitat restoration projects. The Restoration Technician will work directly with field crews to implement invasive plant removal, habitat restoration, and project monitoring. Activities will be conducted along the San Joaquin River in both Fresno and Madera counties.

Project Duties:

The Restoration Technician will implement all aspects of the Trust’s grant funded habitat restoration projects, including:

• Invasive weed removal, herbicide application, drip irrigation system installation/maintenance, planting, and project monitoring.

• Completing field work independently and/or cooperatively in a professional and timely matter.

• Supervising and training field crews to ensure a high quality of work.

• Enforcing and adhering to all permit regulations.

• Assessing potential job site hazards.

• Leading volunteer workdays.

• Assisting with the maintenance properties and all field equipment.

Desired Qualifications:

• High School Diploma. A Bachelor’s Degree or coursework in ecology or similar natural resources field is preferred.

• Knowledge of riparian habitats and vegetation native or invasive to California.

• Experience with GPS technology.

• Experience with field data collection and mapping.

• Ability and willingness to receive certification in pesticide application.

• Ability to work outdoors on uneven terrain in both hot and cold weather while at times performing strenuous physical labor.

• Strong leadership abilities with problem solving and adaptive management skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Experience working with a variety of outdoor tools and equipment including small engines.

• Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong

Job Conditions:

This is a field position. The applicant must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds, work bending over as well as standing or sitting. They must also be able to walk 6-10 miles during the day, and drive work vehicles with trailers to various project sites along the San Joaquin River. Job conditions vary by season (extremely hot summer and frosty winter days).

Desired Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (Required)

• Qualified Applicator’s Certificate or License.
