This program gives an introduction to 22 species of butterflies found in Puget Sound Lowland habitats. Learn the best native and flowering plants for local butterflies and the value of integrating native plants into ornamental garden settings. Garden practices that help butterflies survive throughout the year and in all stages of their life cycle will be covered.

Julie O’Donald is a Community Wildlife Habitat Steward for the National Wildlife Federation with over 30 years experience creating wildlife friendly gardens. She has focused on the use of native plants in the home landscape and the benefits that specific plants offer to wildlife. Active in community educational outreach, Julie volunteers for the Washington Native Plant Society, the Washington Butterfly Association, Kruckeberg Botanic Garden, and the Adopt-a-Stream Foundation in the creation of a native plant meadow for pollinators.

Julie’s home pollinator garden has been featured in Pacific Horticulture. She is a guest writer for The Butterfly Gardener magazine. Most recently, Julie’s story of gardening for butterflies in the Pacific Northwest has been featured in the book, Butterfly Gardening: The North American Butterfly Association Guide.
