Warren Wilson College is seeking an individual, with the right aptitude, education and experience to monitor and implement the College’s campus-wide sustainability plan including data collection and management, educational outreach and management of the campus compost system and sustainability audits.

We are seeking a dynamic team member interested in investing a significant amount of time working with and supervising a student crew that will participate in all aspects of the work.

Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelors degree in Sustainability Studies, Environmental Studies or related field and possess two years of professional experience in private or public sustainability management and supervisory role(s)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability Studies, Environmental Studies or related field
  • Two years professional experience in private or public sustainability management
  • Demonstrated experience with data management platforms including proficiency in Excel & Microsoft Suite
  • Two years supervisory experience
  • Must have a valid NC Driver’s License at time of employment
  • Experience with and ability to train students on heavy equipment including tractors and forklifts
  • Working knowledge of budget oversight and maintenance
  • Evidence of knowledge related to specific OSHA regulations and safety procedures

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Sustainability Studies, Environmental Studies or related field
  • More than two years of supervisory experience with traditional college aged students
  • Membership in professional sustainability organization(s)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in STARS, SIMAP, LEED, or other GHG accounting and sustainability data-tracking platforms

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE

  • Outdoor exposure in all kinds of weather may occur.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sustainability Initiatives

  • In consultation with the Dean of Land Resources and Director of Sustainability, implements campus-wide sustainability initiatives with emphasis on environmental sustainability
  • Works with college stakeholders to collect, manage and report data that supports sustainability initiatives and outcomes
  • Contributes to the College’s AASHE STARS Report in collaboration with the Director of Sustainability
  • Manages the College’s composting/organic waste operation
  • Collaborates with the Business Department on aspects of green entrepreneurship
  • Collaborates with staff and faculty to develop educational opportunities focused on sustainability for internal and external community members
  • Collaborates with the Conservation Exchange and Marketing to promote sustainability initiatives through social media, newsletters and other media outlets
  • Concentration of a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

Work Program

  • Interacts daily with students working on sustainability initiatives in a supervisory role
  • Guides students through the learning and performance goals and evaluations process in a timely manner, mentor students to support their professional and educational development
  • Observes safety standards and procedures as required by OSHA and Warren Wilson College; takes proactive approach to safety
  • Attends WPO supervisor orientation and other training as available
  • Budget manager working within operating budget, handling purchasing and submission of check requests.
  • Assist the Work Program Office (WPO) with recruitment and orientation of the C.O.R.E Crew
  • Coordinate, communicate and monitor student work schedules, approve student timecards by payroll schedule deadlines, and plan for and delegate appropriate tasks
  • Collaborate with the staff of the WPO to problem solve any student crew issues that may arise
