Full Job Description

We are seeking an Environmental Scientist familiar with sustainable acquisition requirements and policy to provide on-site support at Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is to provide full time on-site support at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA and includes:

  • Coordinating and assisting in normal day-to-day management functions and operations of the installation’s sustainable acquisition and hazardous materials (HM) substitutions programs.
  • Assist with the preparation of JBLM Sustainable Acquisition /HM Substitution Program policy and review documents and provide technical advice for implementation.
  • Review federal, DoD, and Department of Army laws and policy for new requirements in regards to Sustainable Acquisition and HM.
  • Review project submittals to identify sustainable acquisition adherence to legal compliance requirements and policies or validate exceptions.
  • Assist installation tenants, contract officials and purchasers on how to achieve compliance with Army policies and regulations.
  • Recommend annual environmental management system (EMS) objectives and targets to support continuous sustainable acquisition improvement on JBLM. Track and report EMS organization status in achieving approved objectives and serve as sustainable acquisition Subject Matter Expert to advise EMS Representatives.
  • Provide sustainable acquisition review comments as part of Hazardous Materials new product reviews.
  • Provide life cycle assessment and/or other evaluations of designated sustainable acquisition product categories.
  • Provide customer service to installation tenants, contract officials and purchasers on how to achieve compliance with sustainable acquisition policies and regulations.
  • Facilitate and support demonstration testing of environmentally preferable products on JBLM.
  • Participate in annual revision of JBLM Design Standards to incorporate or revise relevant sustainable acquisition content.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science or related field and two years of related environmental experience.
  • Ability to write professional business and technical documents.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written communication, public speaking, presentations required.
  • Familiar with sustainable acquisition requirements and policy with the ability to communicate them to all levels of leadership in a manner that supports military mission requirements.
  • Detail orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time and is comfortable with deadlines.
  • Knowledge of DoD required and knowledge of DoD policy.
  • Knowledge of procurement preferred.
  • Motivated and organized personnel requested.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a federal agency background investigation.
