Duties

The Communications Consultant 4 will perform a variety of communications and public information functions in alignment with the State Parks’ mission and vision. This position will serve the public by developing effective communication through a variety of high-quality, professional communication products and using a variety of media. This position will also collaborate with the Communications Team to create materials that explain and educates the public on issues, programs, and goals of the agency.

Duties include but are not limited to:
General communications:

  • Plan, Organize, research, and write content for different communications channels including the agency’s website, intranet, blog, news releases, social media, fact sheets, videos, and special publications.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with staff at all levels to advise and develop communications strategies.
  • Consult with subject matter experts to create content. 
  • Develop effective communications and public relations strategies.
  • Analyze and gauge the level of public understanding of a topic and determine if there is a need for more specific information materials and tactics.

Media relations: 

  • Serve as the agency’s spokesperson to the news media and public on assigned issues.
  • Find and coordinate subject matter expert interviews when needed.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct dissemination of all information materials to mass news media.
  • Target and strategically pitch story ideas to garner coverage on pressing or important state-wide or regional issues.
  • Develop talking points and messages for assigned issues or topics.

Social media:

  • Help manage the agency’s social media programs.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree involving major study in English, journalism, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in writing/editing and communications planning experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Strong and versatile writer with record of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities.
