Hidden Villa is seeking an energetic, responsible team player for the position of Environmental Education Coordinator. Hidden Villa is a non-profit, public benefit corporation  with a 60-year history, focusing on environmental education. Our vision is a sustainable, healthy, and just future for all, and our mission is to foster educational experiences that build connections and inspire a deeper appreciation and respect for nature, food, and one another. Hidden Villa stretches over 1600 acres of wild and farmed lands in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about 40 miles south of San Francisco.

Department: Environmental Education (HVEEP), within larger Programs Department

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8-5 typically. This is a full-time, permanent position at 40 hrs a week throughout the school year and reduces to 20 hours per week in the Summer months between mid June and mid August. Hidden Villa provides a benefit package that includes vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, acupuncture/chiropractic and retirement benefits. Vacation days are of limited availability during the peak activity months of September, October, April and May.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaching on-site and in-classroom programs from established Hidden Villa curricula using the organic gardens, wild spaces, and farm animals.
  • In close cooperation with the HVEEP Director, daily and weekly coordination of approximately 50 volunteer guides to ensure adequate staffing for all programs.
  • Ongoing volunteer recruitment, training, evaluation, and related event coordination.
  • Maintenance of detailed volunteer records and preparation of summary data for inclusion in the Education Director’s regular reports to staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Curriculum development supporting Next Generation Science Standards [NGSS], and in support of the larger Programs Department as it expands program offerings in fulfillment of Hidden Villa’s Strategic Plan.
  • Coordination of teaching intern curriculum development efforts.
  • Support for HV fundraising efforts in areas such as grant tracking, statistical reporting, evaluation, and as needed in other areas.

Essential and Useful Skills, Education, Experience and Personal Qualities: Successful candidates need not possess all of the following experiences or attributes. Enthusiasm and commitment to team goals and the organizational mission are also very important. Persons of nontraditional education and experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience in providing education for children with a prepared curriculum
  • Experience in developing and presenting effective new curricula for children and youth
  • Familiarity with NGSS teaching principles and methods
  • Upbeat, positive role model for interns and volunteers
  • Organized individual with experience coordinating adult volunteers
  • Demonstrable competence with detail-orientated administrative systems
  • Working knowledge of natural history and ecology
  • Experience, skills or abilities with any of the following: farms and gardens, working with diverse populations, classroom teaching, volunteering, knowledge of non-English languages (especially Spanish), singing or other musical skills.
  • Love of children and the outdoors, and a true team player with a sense of humor!

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full time, non exempt position with a salary of $22.00 per hour. The position works 40 hours a week during the school year and 20 hours a week mid-June through mid-August.

General Information:
