This unclassified, full-time position is located in the Fisheries Division, Region 1, Wilson Wildlife Area Office; and is directly supervised by Lynn Davignon, Fisheries Regional Supervisor.

The incumbent has district responsibilities for Barton, Ellsworth, Lincoln, McPherson, Rice, Russell and Saline counties, which includes Wilson and Kanopolis Reservoirs, three State Fishing lakes, and several public accessible impoundments. Work involves organizing, coordinating and directing fisheries programs and projects; conducting fish population surveys; supervision of seasonal employees; providing technical services to private landowners and local governing units; coordination and oversight of the Community Fisheries Assistance Program (CFAP) in assigned district; administering the Walk-in Fishing Program in assigned district; coordinating information/education efforts with other divisions and local media; conducting aquatic education programs for the Kansas public; preparing documents, reports, and fisheries management plans; assisting other divisions and various state and federal agencies with environmental issues; and special projects, as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in environmental, agricultural or natural sciences/resources. Experience in the fields listed above may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency. Applicants possessing a bachelor’s degree with major course work in fisheries  science/management will be given preference. One year of field experience in fisheries management, culture and /or research is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must pass a background check AND must possess a valid driver’s license.
