Position Title: MOSS Community Outreach Specialist Project Sponsor: University of Idaho McCall Outdoor Science School

Service Description/Position Summary: The Community Outreach Specialist will design and implement place- based field and classroom education programs for the McCall-Donnelly School District. They will work closely with MOSS faculty and staff and classroom teachers to establish year-long projects in local classrooms.

Member Activities/Duties:

  • Plan and lead place-based education programs for K-12 students in the classroom and the field.
  • Design new lesson plans and adapt old lesson plans to meet group needs.
  • Assist teachers in designing place-based education projects and curriculum.
  • Research and design curricula that support state educational standards.
  • Recruit and support community volunteers for education events.
  • Provide general office/administrative support related to education programs

Requirements (The below bullet points are the requirements of the PCEI AmeriCorps Program. Please list additional requirements specific to your site.)

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, four-year university. All academic fields are considered.
  • Must be at least 22 years of age. 
  • Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving award.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must be able to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through PCEI.
  • Must complete and submit all necessary PCEI AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Must commit to and attend and complete all PCEI AmeriCorps training and service requirements including
  • orientation, trainings, team meetings and national service days.
  • Must wear PCEI uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.
  • Must have a cooperative manner and the ability to serve as part of a diverse team.
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance and dependability.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills.

Member Qualifications and/or Required/Preferred Skills:

  • One-year experience teaching K12 students in field and classroom settings.
  • Experience researching and writing curricula that support state achievement standards.
  • Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers.
  • Experience collaborating with a team to design education activities

Member Benefits Include:

  • A taxable, monthly living allowance ($15,100.00/full-time member).
  • Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award of $6,345.00 for a full-time position.

Dates of Service: Full-time: 11 months, between September 2021 and August 2022 (These dates are TBD).
