Boulder County Parks & Open Space is seeking a bilingual volunteer coordinator to join our creative and dynamic education team as the Bilingual Natural History Program Coordinator. This position is a lead-specialist level classification that fosters community connection to nature. The position recruits and mentors volunteer naturalists who provide educational opportunities that relate to local environmental themes, open space stewardship, and a conservation ethic. Working with local multicultural community groups, this position leverages the value of diversity to co-create educational programs for county residents.
Work hours are Tuesday – Saturday. This position will work at the Volunteer Naturalist Center at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat in Boulder, CO. Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Examples of Duties:
- Coordinate department’s environmental education programs for Boulder County residents, school groups, and organizations.
- Plans and conducts orientation and training sessions for volunteer naturalists.
- Mentor volunteers who develop and lead a wide variety of educational programs.
- Collaboration with Natural History Program Specialist to manage a large volunteer program (approximately 100 volunteers who lead 220+ programs annually).
- Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents for volunteers and program participants.
- Maintains record-keeping systems and prepares report to measure the success of sponsored programs and write reports, as needed.
- Supervise, counsel, and evaluate one full time employee.
- Co-create new environmental programs and events with Latinx community partners on county open spaces, and reach out to other underserved populations to increase their connection to open space.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements volunteer recognition activities.
- Coordinate attendance at local town festivals and events.
