One Outdoor Recreation Technician (Seasonal Worker, 40 hours/week, 6-month duration) position is available with the Colorado State University (CSU) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position will provide support to the natural resources program at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), Florida. Successful candidates will gain excellent, entry-level experience on a range of outdoor recreation, wildlife, protected species, and natural resource management projects. Military affiliation is not required to apply for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The outdoor recreation technician will be tasked with a variety of natural resources projects, including maintaining and creating fences and pens for gopher tortoises, monitoring shorebirds and sea turtles during the nesting season, and maintaining recreation areas by repairing fences and picnic tables, and mowing and maintaining the grounds. The technician also will assist with special-opportunity hunts and fishing rodeos. The technician will be required to operate gas-powered tools, augers, tractors, welders, and other special equipment. The variety of projects that the technician will be working on will provide valuable wildlife, outdoor recreation, and natural resources management experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in a natural resources-, environmental compliance-, or ecosystem science-related field.
  • Must be physically capable of working independently in remote outdoor locations for long periods of time under varying weather conditions. Field activities will require frequent walking, pulling, lifting, and using motorized equipment and tools.
  • Carpentry and/or welding experience
  • Experience using a chainsaw, auger, and other gas-powered and mechanical tools.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for operating federal vehicles, including cars and ATVs.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a DoD Installation Access Pass.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience operating tractors and ATVs
  • Small engine repair experience

PAY RATE

Pay rate is $16/hour and the work period will be for approximately 6 months.
