Communities In Schools of Peninsula (CISP) is seeking a highly skilled Volunteer Coordinator who also has experience with communications and social media outreach. This person will be responsible for recruiting and training volunteers to work with children and will also be responsible for and maintaining social media communications and assisting the Development Director with special events.

Volunteer Coordinator Duties and Skills:

  • Recruit volunteer mentors for elementary and secondary programs;
  • Provide training/orientation to volunteer mentors;
  • Make background check phone calls for clearance to work with children;
  • Track and match development between mentors and mentees and resolve issues related to program
  • efficacy;
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics adherent to CISP’s volunteer management policies and
  • procedures;
  • Maintain files as required by CIS National’s Total Quality Standards (TQS);
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student mentee information;
  • Interface with school personnel and parents for program support;
  • Establish and maintain communication with mentors/mentees by managing email distribution;
  • Produce volunteer newsletter 3-4 times a year;
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation gifts/events;
  • Tutors with Tails recruitment/management;
  • Be responsible for volunteer management for special events

Communications Coordinator Duties and Skills:

  • Maintain social media channels with frequent posts on CISP’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts
  • Help write articles for the quarterly CISP newsletter;
  • Coordinate community/media outreach for CISP events;
  • Provide student success stories and other relevant information to CISP’s Operations Director for updating the website as needed;
  • Co-lead Public Relations/Resource Development committee meetings with the Development Director (be responsible for meeting agenda and minutes);
  • Write and coordinate press release distribution with assistance from the PR Chair and committee members;
  • Assist Development Director with funding campaigns like Giving Tuesday, to include media outreach and emails to supporters and funders;
  • Maintain connection/relationship with CIS National and CIS State offices to stay in alignment with national and statewide CIS campaigns

Other Duties:

  • Coordinate CISP booth at open houses, fairs, and other community events;
  • Perform additional activities to support Development Director with special events to include  design of special event invitations, sponsorship outreach, and other duties;
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with CIS staff and board;
  • Attend staff and board meetings;
  • Attend staff trainings and other professional development opportunities;
  • Other duties as assigned within the operations of a small non-profit office working environment

Qualifications:

Required

  • Function well in a small office team environment;
  • Ability to prioritize activities and request clarification of assigned tasks;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated volunteer recruitment, training, and support experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and customer service skills;  
  • Must be aware of confidentiality constraints with sensitive donor and client/student information;
  • Highly organized, efficient; detail and process oriented;
  • Ability to represent CISP in a positive and professional manner;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products;
  • Previous experience with databases or similar types of tracking or registration systems;
  • Criminal background check required

  • Successful project management;
  • Public speaking experience

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate will possess a degree and/or 2 – 3 years equivalent experience, specializing in business, marketing, communications, social work, or a related field.
