An environmental educator/assistant naturalist leads school groups in instructional programs concerning nature, conservation and/or the environment, often with live animals and/or animal artifacts. Most programs are 45-60 minute classroom programs at the school and primarily designed for students grades K through 12. Assistant Naturalists also facilitate in-school team-building and day-long Challenge Course programs on the PNW BOCES campus.  Animal care for the center’s animal ambassadors is a daily responsibility and is coordinated with the center’s other assistant naturalists.

This position requires four years of teaching experience or a degree in a related field. Educating experience with groups of 10 or more in an environmental education setting is a must. Experience and comfort working with exotic animals (e.g. reptiles) is a must. Candidates must be interested in developing and refining both outdoor and classroom-based environmental programs always with a mind toward safety and sustainability.  Experience with online teaching platforms is a plus.

This is a Westchester County civil service position with all of the associated benefits (including access to the New York State Employee Retirement System). Housing is not included with this position.
