Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research and interprets environmental impacts to the program.
  • Participate in all aspects of rule development including drafting language and the development of environmental and cost/benefit documents.
  • Serve as the program lead in conducting initial analysis and coordinating the review on rule making actions or proposed policy by other natural resource agencies or proposed legislation.
  • Develop policy recommendations to Forest Practices Program.
  • Act as the technical lead in the development of new sections and amendments to existing sections of the Forest Practices Board Manual.
  • May act as the lead in representing the program on technical workgroups or committees.
  • Present program changes to TFW Policy Committee representatives, the Forest Practices Board and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or above with major emphasis in forestry or a natural resource management related area.
  • Two to three years of professional experience in the principles and practices of the forestry profession.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying agency policy, analyzing data and drawing conclusions from reports/policies.
  • Strong writing, analytical, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced and demanding deadline work environment.
    • Three years of practical experience with Washington Forest Practices Act and Rules.
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced and demanding deadline work environment.
    • Familiarity of the Forest Practices Adaptive Management Program including the relationships between the Board, the TFW Policy Committee and the Cooperative Monitoring Evaluation and Research Committee.
    • Training or relevant work experience understanding how climate change affects Pacific Northwest forests, watercourses and the resulting forest management implications.
    • Experience leading or facilitating with workgroups to develop recommendations or solve problems.Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
