We invite you to apply for the position of Environmental Specialist 3 where you will support the agency mission by performing outreach, oversight and consultation on technically complex petroleum contaminated cleanup projects relating to the agency’s underground storage tank (UST) and heating oil programs. You will engage with owners and operators of USTs and heating oil tanks to help them follow applicable state regulations and standards.
Duties
Some of what you’ll do:
- Review and analyze proposed cleanup action plans, highlighting any areas of deficiency or concern.
- Analyze final cleanup action reports and exercise independent decision-making authority to prepare written opinions regarding project completion.
- Notify site owners of further steps necessary to move projects toward closure.
- Perform site visits to observe projects in progress and ensure appropriate environmental cleanup practices are employed.
- Meet with consultants, owners, third party administrators, and other stakeholders to resolve concerns/issues and promote good communication.
- Maintain project records, databases, and tracking systems.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field and two years of professional level experience in environmental analysis or control or environmental planning.
Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for education.
A Master’s degree in one of the above fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.
OR
A Ph.D. in one of the above fields.
OR
One year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 2.
PREFERRED:
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment meeting stringent deadlines and the ability to change priorities quickly.
- Experience in serving, communicating and interacting with diverse individuals and groups.
- Experience working with rulemaking and/or legislation.
- Experience with groundwater modeling applications.
- Experience with the interpretation and application of applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
- Experience in evaluating information obtained and making definitive decisions regarding compliance with state requirements.
- Knowledge in fate and transport modeling.
- Possess good written and oral communications skills.
- Accept personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work.
