Responsibilities

As a Water Resources Branch Chief your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides overall leadership, policy guidance and expertise to Service activities in Interior Regions 9, 10, 12 across multiple Service programs (i.e., Refuges, Ecological Services, Law Enforcement, Fisheries and Aquatic Conservation, Science Applications, Migratory Birds, etc.) on the water resources program.
  • Provides broad expertise in the fields of hydrology on problems of regional and national significance.
  • Region wide, develops program planning and evaluation (including budget and fiscal management), goal setting, and policy development of regulatory and procedural guidelines on water rights/resources.
  • Advises and briefs Regional Directorate on problems and recommends solutions and actions. Represents and provides technical expertise to the Regional Directorate and field offices in meetings with local, State, and Federal agencies and public interest groups on water rights/resources.
  • Supervises all Branch personnel comprised of hydrologists, water rights specialists, technicians, contractors, and administrative/clerical staff. Duties include assigning work, developing performance standards, evaluating performance, approving leave, resolving or recommending resolution of complaints or grievances, effecting minor disciplinary actions, determining and recommending training, recommending employee personnel actions, team building, and making new employee selections.
  • Prepares reports and documents giving the official viewpoint of the Region and/or the Service on the hydrology of complex and controversial basin-wide development projects.
  • Communicates and coordinates with Service’s Headquarters, Regional, and field office staff, and other Federal, State, and private entities to keep apprised of water rights/resources issues. Provides Service and Department personnel, other Government agencies, and the public with information and advice concerning water rights/resources.
