What you will be doing
You will be responsible for working with teams to advance Puget Sound recovery. You’ll direct or contribute to planning and policy initiatives related to the Action Agenda and Implementation Strategies. This will include representing the agency in external venues, influencing the work of partners and implementing significant work components in fulfillment of the agency’s mission. The goal of the Partnership’s Integrated Planning team, of which you will be a member, is to facilitate collaboration in developing a shared plan to accelerate Puget Sound recovery and empower partners to implement local and regional recovery plans.

Some of the duties include:

  • Lead key aspects of major planning and policy initiatives, such as the Action Agenda and Implementation Strategies, by working across agency programs and with diverse partners (tribal, state, federal, local, NGO, and business).
  • Engage with diverse partners to increase participation, ensure effective implementation, and advance targeted outcomes.
  • Strengthen relationships while representing the agency in external venues by coordinating and influencing the work of partners, expanding constituencies, and creating opportunities for input on agency priorities, policies and programs.
  • Lead internal and external project teams and advisory groups.
  • Analyze, develop, and manage agency policies and positions on internal and external issues.
  • Advance agency efforts to integrate cross-cutting topics – which may include climate change, human wellbeing, environmental justice, or others – into the Action Agenda and other major planning and policy initiatives.
  • Support efforts to further integrate existing or ongoing programs that contribute to Puget Sound recovery into the Action Agenda.
  • Coordinate with the Adaptive Systems and Accountability Program team to support accountability and target setting efforts.
  • Support integration of local and regional salmon recovery efforts with Puget Sound recovery efforts.
  • Support efforts to increase the effectiveness of the Puget Sound Partnership’s statutory boards in accelerating recovery progress.
  • Oversee budget administration and performance management of assigned project teams, programs, and contractors.
  • Develop and contribute to work plans for projects and programs.

 Required Experience, Competencies and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, natural resources, public policy, planning, public administration or related field
  • Three (3) years related professional experience; public sector experience preferred
  • Two (2) years of interdisciplinary program/complex project management
  • Two (2) years direct experience in strategic planning and implementation, particularly in natural resource or environmental sector
  • A work history demonstrating progressive levels of skill, capability and responsibility
  • A substantive knowledge of the issues in which the Puget Sound Partnership is involved
  • Commitment to advancing justice, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts

 PREFERRED:

  • A master’s degree in environmental management, natural resources, public policy, planning, public administration or related field
  • Five (5) or more years of related professional experience, including some relevant professional experience working at various levels of government (Experience with treaty tribes is especially helpful)
  • Experience in a complex, public sector work environment, including science-policy decision making
  • Experience participating in the development or implementation of an Action Agenda, salmon recovery plan, local Ecosystem Recovery Plan, or Implementation Strategy
