Visiting Research Scientist

The Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign seeks a full time Visiting Research Scientist. The primary focus of this position will be leading the enhanced weathering field project at the University of Illinois Energy Farm, which investigates nutrient cycles and plant-soil-atmospheric interactions under a rock-based carbon dioxide capture scheme.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

Education: Required: PhD in relevant field.

Experience: Required: At least 5 years’ experience in field work, in ecosystem measurements such as chromatography and infrared measurements. Experience managing multiple sets of data. Preferred: >5 years’ experience in field research.

Training, Licenses or Certifications: Required: A valid driver’s license is required due to traveling to research sites 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Required: Evidence of consistent use of good judgment, discretion, and tactful communication. Energy and enthusiasm for expressing the value of diverse cultures, fostering empathy, and improving organizations in the areas of access and representation. Knowledge and experience with office software and ability to learn custom systems. Ability to handle multiple priorities without direct supervision. Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Environmental Demands: Field work including working in adverse weather and field conditions.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications 

Start date: as soon as possible
