Our Forest Practices office staff of the Northeast Region of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a new member to join our team. The Forest Practices Division of DNR serves as the regulatory authority of forestry activity on all on non-federal public and private lands through the Forest Practices Act.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who possess great communication skills, enjoys working with a variety of people, has good attention to detail and has a passion for Washington State’s Natural Resources.  The Natural Resources Technician 2 will serve as the first point of contact for the public regarding Forest Practices Applications.  This position assists landowners over the phone or in person at the NE Region Headquarters Office with completing the necessary forms, making sure they have a good understanding of the Forest Practices Act and what is required of their proposals.  This position is also responsible to process and distribute the Forest Practices Applications to the appropriate foresters and/or industry partners, as well as maintain the region’s Forest Practices files.

Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Representing the agency in a positive manner while assisting land owners with questions and concerns regarding forestry activities.
  • Working with landowners submitting Forest Practices Applications (FPAs) and related documents to insure they are complete and accurately represent the activity.
  • Recommends appropriate classification of forest practices activity and distributes FPAs and related documents to team members and industry partners.
  • Maintains the region’s Forest Practices files.
  • Alerts supervisor of complaints, procedural or sensitive issues.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or GED and 4 years’ experience in a business environment with heavy customer interface.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel and Abode Acrobat.
  • Ability to function as a member of a diverse, multi- disciplinary team.
  • Ability to learn Forest Practices RCWs and WACs, DNR policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to difficult, stressful or sensitive interpersonal situations in a way that reduces or minimizes potential conflict and maintains good working relationships among internal staff and external applicants and other stakeholders.

Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural science, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a natural resource related field.
  • Experience reading and understanding maps.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment such as scanners, printers, and integrated phone systems.
