The DNR Fleet Repair and Fabrication Shop in Tumwater Washington is seeking a Lead Fabricator to join a team that with help support building and maintaining a wide variety of fleet vehicles and equipment. You will be the lead fabricator responsible for the performance of others, while also working on the development, fabrication, assembly, and repair of custom equipment. This equipment ranges from wildfire apparatus, farming and marine equipment, to small motored equipment and more.

Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Provide and oversee design, fabrication and repairs to the DNR fleet.
  • Ensure work is performed in a safe, quality and timely manner.
  • Dispatch work orders to technicians and welder.
  • Attend and provide input for training at monthly safety meetings.
  • Participate as part of the Tumwater Shop leadership team.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • 5 years’ experience working in a fabrication/welding shop environment.
  • Welding certification. Proficiency in MIG & TIG welding.
  • At least 2 years verifiable experience leading 2 or more employees within the last 5 years.
  • Mechanical vehicle and equipment repair and or assembly experience.
  • Experience using computerized fabrication shop equipment.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written. Ability to operate fleet management software.
  • Hands on welding test will be required at time of interview.
  • A valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates may be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.

Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:

  • A.S.E. Certification.
  • A.A. or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Class A CDL.
  • Previous experience in the manufacture and repair of fire apparatus.
  • Experience in small motored equipment repair and maintenance.
