This position supports the DOH mission of protecting and improving the health of all people in Washington State by working to promote and strengthen healthy families and communities. The Community Health Worker (CHW) Training Program is located within the Community Engagement and Equity Section in the Office of Family and Community Health Improvements.  THE CHW Training Program goal is to reduce health disparities by training community health workers who work to improve people’s health and reduce health disparities.

This HSC3 project position is currently funded through June 30, 2023

This position leads the facilitation of the Department’s statewide Community Health Worker Training Program including Core training and health specific modules.  This position supports the coordination of the training program including curriculum development and adaptation, program facilitation, individual coaching, training logistics, data tracking, and managing relationships with internal and external partners, with an emphasis on partnering with statewide and regional CHW networks.  This position will support the exploration and implementation of new training models, including train-the-trainer, and incorporate recommendations from the CHW Leadership Committee and community into the training program. This position reports to the Community Health Worker Training Program Manager.

The duty station for this position is Kent, WA.   Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is currently expected.  Incumbent must have internet access and connectivity.  When approved to return, the incumbent is expected to report to the duty station for work activities.  An alternative work schedule may be considered upon request and supervisor approval.  Telework – once returned to the duty station for work activities, may be considered upon request with supervisory approval.

Duties Include

  • Facilitate Statewide Community Health Worker Training for Community Partners.
  • Provides logistical coordination of CHW training program.
  • Curriculum Management and Adaptation.
  • Support Contract and Data Management.
  • Facilitate web-based training and support multiple Health Specific Modules (HSM) per quarter, which includes coordinating with DOH subject matter experts as needed.
  • Contribute to program planning for statewide Community Health Worker Trainer Program.
  • Manage the Community Health Worker on-line registration process, which includes building and updating registration forms, filtering and verifying enrollment data and then uploading into Learning Management System for training
  • Leads utilization of the ACT! database system to collect and monitor participant data, and to establish broadcast communications to various groups and sub-groups related to the CHWTS project
  • Promotes equity principles in the development of CHW training program partnerships and training program adaptations. Represents DOH CHW Training program in gatherings with CHW Networks, WACHWA and other stakeholders as needed
  • Leads correspondence with statewide partners on training schedule coordination
  • Seeks to build relationships with CHWs, community partners, organizational stakeholders and other groups.

Required Qualifications

Option 1: A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in public health, community health, social work, health communications, public administration, or related field; AND two (2) or more years of progressively more responsible experience in a health or related field. Experience must include the following:

  • Leading, developing, facilitating or coordinating the delivery of health education or workforce training or other curriculum for adult learners to community based audiences with a focus on community health workers.
  • Effectively collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Addressing health disparities, equity, and/or working with historically marginalized groups.

OR

Option 2: Four (4) more years of progressively more responsible experience in a health or related field. Experience must include the following:

  • Leading, developing, facilitating or coordinating the delivery of health education or workforce training or other curriculum for adult learners to community based audiences with a focus on community health workers.
  • Effectively collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Addressing health disparities, equity, and/or working with historically marginalized groups.

Desired Qualifications
•          Experience facilitating in-person training for adult learners.
•          Experience facilitating virtual training for adult learners.
•          Experience using quality improvement tools to improve efficiency, accuracy and overall quality.
