What will you do?

You will direct, manage, supervise and provide technical expertise to the Forest Health and Monitoring Units of the Private Forests Program. Your responsibilities include:  (1) planning, leading, improving and implementing a statewide forest practices and forest health monitoring and evaluation program to measure the implementation and effectiveness of the Oregon Forest Practices Act in meeting its goals and objectives; (2) coordinating forest health and forest practice monitoring activities within the department and among state and federal agencies, research scientists, forest landowners and other interests; (3) providing technical guidance and consultation on forest health and forest practice monitoring to forestry staff and field personnel, landowners and other interests; and (4) serving as a technical adviser at the federal and state level about forest health and forest practice monitoring needs and methods. You will recommend revisions to agency policy and procedures by evaluating their impact on program activities in order to increase effectiveness of program operations.

  • Proven experience as an excellent communicator who is honest, fair and inclusive among employees, partners and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment. 

  • Six years of experience in supervision, staff-technical, or professional-level work related to Forestry or related Natural Resources field.  Two years of this experience must have included supervision and management of a program, section, or unit which included: a) development of program rules and policies; b) development of long-and short-range goals and plans; c) program evaluation; AND d) budget preparation. OR

  • Six years of experience in supervision, staff technical, or professional work related to Forestry or related Natural Resources field. Two years of this experience must have included program/project leader responsibility involving one or more of the following areas: a) development of program rules and policies; b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans; c) program evaluation and/or project evaluation; OR d) monitoring and controlling or preparing a budget.

NOTE: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent course work (144 quarter or 96 semester hours) in a field related to management, such as Business or Public Administration, or a field related to the program of the employing agency, may be substituted for three years of the required experience, but will not substitute for the two years of specialized experience.
