Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is seeking a skilled Camp Ranger in North Plains, Oregon. The Camp Ranger lives onsite and ensures that the site is in good repair, safe, and accessible. This position is responsible for overall upkeep and improvements to the site which includes general maintenance, construction, trail maintenance, grounds keeping, and custodial services – basic construction skills are essential. Additionally, the Ranger supports volunteers and staff to ensure that users of the site have a successful and safe camping experience.

The Position:

• Compensation –  $16.50 hour + housing which includes a residence, water, sewer or septic, garbage, landline phone, internet, and WiFi.

Requirements:

• At least 2 years experience in construction, property maintenance, or similar occupation
• Experience in a variety of maintenance areas including basic plumbing, ability to troubleshoot electrical problems, and mechanical repairs
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Maturity of judgment
• Teamwork and collaboration
• Contractor supervision and management
• Accurate and timely record-keeping
• Valid Driver’s License
• Minimum state-required level of auto insurance (based on the council jurisdiction)
• Computer proficiency including email, word, and internet applications

Preferred skills:

• Safe use of chain saws
• Excellent customer-facing skills
• Forestry knowledge/experience

Responsibilities:

• Grounds maintenance, trail clearing, road maintenance, mowing, etc.
• Process the check-in and check-out of groups using the site, review emergency information with the group leader(s), assist guests moving into and out of units, and provide authorized equipment to ensure a successful experience
• Clean and maintain interior and exterior of buildings and equipment
• Maintain septic and water systems
• Participate in construction projects on the property, working both independently and with others, as required
• Keep grounds and facilities free of clutter and clean, to maintain a neat appearance and provide a safe environment for campers
• Monitor site for damage caused by weather or vandalism
• Maintain gates and posted signs to discourage unauthorized access onto camp property
• Provide support to camp directors, volunteers, and staff
• Open and close all outdoor camping units by cleaning and making repairs, turning water systems on/off, moving equipment
• Check appliances, plumbing, electricity, furnaces, fire extinguishers, communication systems, pool filtration and chemicals, and septic systems on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure they are in proper operating condition
• Follow GSUSA and council policies and guidelines, and ensures compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and codes
• Prepare requested reports on a timely basis for supervisor review
• Provide backup and assistance at other council properties if needed
• Maintain good communication with supervisors and other property team members

About the Mountaindale Outdoor Program Center
This hidden gem of 50 acres is located off Sunset Highway in North Plains, filled with hiking trails, native plants, birds, and other wildlife! The large meadow is ideal for activities and a nearby pond is perfect for environmental study. Areas include a lodge with a commercial kitchen, a staff house/pavilion, and other covered structures and primitive tent sites.
