Rogue River Watershed Council desires to employ a Community Engagement Project Manager to engage individuals, businesses and organizations, and communities in support of healthy watersheds and watershed restoration across 1.6 million acres of southern Oregon’s famous Rogue River Basin. The Rogue River Watershed Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The Community Engagement Project Manager will develop strategies and projects that encourage support of and investment in the work of the Rogue River Watershed Council and our partners in the areas of protection and restoration of watershed health throughout the middle and upper Rogue River Basin. Community engagement and outreach are highly interactive among a broad suite of partners from individual volunteers, businesses, non-profit organizations, schools, local governments, and agencies. Close collaboration and teamwork among Rogue River Watershed Council staff and the wide range of partners are essential components of the position.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Community Engagement Project Manager will be responsible for performing the following activities:

• Develop goals for community engagement, maintain records, and prepare reports demonstrating progress toward meeting goals.
• Oversee constituent relationship management system (Little Green Light).
• Develop, implement, and schedule outreach and other community engagement opportunities in Josephine and Jackson Counties to include tabling at events, hikes, and volunteer activities.
• Oversee the preparation of communication products (newsletter, email updates, social media, website, videos, and press releases/advisories) and arrange for their distribution.
• Prepare an annual budget for community engagement activities; and
• Assist in organizing and implementing special events, including donor/volunteer appreciation and the annual fundraiser.

The Community Engagement Project Manager will direct contractors, consultants, partners, and volunteers within her/his area of responsibility. Where necessary in the performance of her/his duties, the Community Engagement Project Manager will assist other staff with projects outside of her/his direct responsibilities.

Salary: $42,500 – $57,500 annually (dependent on education and experience) with health benefits and matching contributions to a retirement savings plan

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Marketing, Graphic Design, or Communications (or a closely related major) with some coursework or experience in biology, environmental science, geology, hydrology, natural resources. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Earth Science, Fisheries/Wildlife Science, Forestry, Geology, or Natural Resource Management (or a closely related major) with at least one year of experience translating technical topics to lay audiences.

Preference will be given to candidates with post-graduate degrees or specific experience related to watershed management/watershed health improvement, land stewardship, community education, community engagement, business engagement, local government engagement, and volunteer development.

About the Rogue River Watershed Council: Rogue River Watershed Council is an Oregon non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The Council currently employs five full-time staff. We have strong, existing partnerships with federal and state agencies, universities, county and city governments, non-profit organizations, and foundations. Our current project portfolio includes streamside forest restoration (and post-fire remediation in riparian areas), instream habitat restoration (including fish passage improvement), water quality monitoring, and community engagement and outreach through communications, hikes, interpretive signs, and events. The middle and upper Rogue River Basin provides drinking water for Ashland, Central Point, Gold Hill, Grants Pass, Eagle Point, Medford, Phoenix, Rogue River, Talent, and White City and is a stronghold for Southern Oregon Northern California Coho Salmon.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort: The Community Engagement Project Manager will work from the Rogue River Watershed Council office in Central Point. There will be work situations that demand being outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain. A valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a good driving record are required. Some weekend and evening work will be necessary.
