Description

The Discovery Program at Camp Allen is searching for a residential Environmental Education Instructor for the 2021-2022 school year.  Requirements to apply are a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, experience working with youth and a desire to wo activities on 1100 acres of pine and hardwood forest in Eastern Texas. All necessary trainings and certifications such as Level I ACCT low and high ropes challenge, NASP or USA archery, ACA flatwater canoe/kayak, Red Cross or AHA first aid/CPR, etc. are furnished and paid as a part of our on-site staff development.   School year begins August 15 and endsrk and play outdoors.   Instructors teach and lead groups of students from local public and private schools in a variety of environmental, outdoor and adventure education classes and June 1.  Salary for beginning instructors is $300 weekly + full room and board and health insurance.

Job description:

  • Teach groups of students in the following areas:  *  Forest Ecology  *  Wildlife Communities  *  Aquatic Biology  *  Challenge Course  *  Garden and Farm  *  Conservation  *  Archeology  *  Texas Living History  *  Native American Studies
  • Emphasize interdependency, cooperative behavior, and a positive lifestyle through example and instruction.
  • Utilize opportunities to develop and implement new teaching strategies and lessons.
  • Gain understanding about and utilize effective class management techniques, following the Discovery Discipline System.
  • Maintain and develop environmental program areas.
  • Provide written documentation and materials to the Discovery Program for lessons used.
  • Promote the program to potential clients when given the opportunity.
  • Organize and supervise school programs when required.
  • Participate in a community living and working atmosphere, attempting to maintain positive working relationships with all other Camp Allen staff.
  • Express commitment and responsibility toward Camp Allen’s program, facility, and property.
  • Inform the director of any suggested improvements or breach in policy.
  • Participate in a semiannual review process conducted by the instructor and the director.
  • Perform any other duties considered to be imperative for Camp Allen’s smooth operation
