Description
This is a part-time opportunity from July 12- August 13, Monday – Thursday, 7:00-1:00, with some occasional Friday shifts.

The Parks Department

Pierce County Parks manages over 5,000 acres of open space, trails, developed and undeveloped parks.  We provide recreational programs and infrastructure in active and passive parks and along trails. The department consists of four divisions:  Recreation, Maintenance, Administration and Resource Stewardship. Our mission is to be a leader in creating livable communities by providing opportunities for people to connect with nature, live healthy lifestyles, enjoy vibrant community spaces, and learn about sustainable practices.

Position Summary

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 7:00-1:00, with some occasional Friday shifts.
Dates of Work: July 12- August 13

Note: These are seasonal positions not eligible for County benefits.

Work at a summer day camp for individuals aged 20-30 years who have special needs.
Duties will include:
1.            Assist Coordinator & staff with daily activities, preparation, supervision and cleanup.
2.            Maintain a clean, safe and inclusive environment throughout each activity.
3.            Assist participants with daily tasks onsite and within the community.
4.            Assist with supervision of campers during program activities.
5.            Perform other duties as assigned by the coordinator.
6.            Be able to follow all rules regarding COVID prevention

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and experience working with people with disabilities in a recreational and/or work setting.
Knowledge and experience working with teens and young adults.
Knowledge of recreational activities such as: sports, games, arts and crafts, music, cooking, first aid and safety.
Ability to problem solve, work with the public in a tactful manner, and possess organizational skills while remaining flexible.
Ability to exercise mature judgment to insure safety and enjoyment by program participants; lead both large and small group activities; maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents and volunteers; follow written and oral directions; shifts vary.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED, minimum 18 years of age.
  • Active participation in recreation programming.
  • Work or volunteer experience with individuals with disabilities in a recreation setting.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATES:  Current CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of employment.
