The elephant in the room is commonly understood to refer to those things enormous, topics whose perception – both shared and elided – make complicit everyone in the metaphorical room, the space in which elephants of personal, societal, political, abstract, causal, accidental, elliptic and endlessly various natures roam.

The practice of denying the implications of shared realities has served the interests of those who feel uncomfortable and exposed by the elephant’s very existence for as long as its famous memory.

The Elephant Room is a student-run, volunteer initiative that would like to refute that practice.

Do you have original work addressing the elephant? This call for submissions is an invitation to be part of a collaborative room in which written and visual work (r)evolving around memory, suppression, the unspoken, dreams, persistent marginalia, symbolism, matriarchy & longness that inhabit every square-inch of space, the volume of our truths compounding infinitely.
