The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Aquatic Resources Division. We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated person to support the Shoreline District within the Aquatic Resources Division at the Department of Natural Resources. The Aquatic Resources Division manages 2.6 million acres of state-owned aquatic lands so that people, orcas, and salmon can thrive, businesses and eelgrass meadows can grow, and public access to the water is available in perpetuity.

Duties

Responsibilities:
The Natural Resource Technician 3 position is closely aligned with the DNR’s missions in managing state-owned aquatic lands. As the primary support staff person, the Land Technician is in charge of the day to day operation of the administrative and support activities of the Shoreline District. The person in this position prepares legal documents, ensures that bonds and insurance policies for over 1000 land use authorizations are in good standing, sends out billings, updates data bases, researches and compiles information, edits and sends out letters written by staff, and performs internal audits on accounts. The Land Technician must act in a business-like manner and functions as a primary public contact for the Shoreline District.

This position is stationed at the South Puget Sound Region Office in Enumclaw, WA. The majority of the work is performed in an office environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience with managing records and files.
  • Proficient at using computers and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Experience with understanding, interpreting and enforcing contract terms.
  • Proficient at speaking, writing and reporting clearly and effectively.
  • Experience with working within a team.
  • Experience interpreting laws, regulations and policies pertaining to management of aquatic land.
  • Must be 18 and possess a high school diploma or a GED at time of hire.
  • The incumbent in this position is required to travel.
  • A valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates may be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.

Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:

  • Proficient at using an accounting or contract management system, such as NaturE.
  • Experience with recognizing land uses and potential land uses.
  • Experience working with leases or other legal contracts and ability to understand interpret and enforce contract terms such as rent insurance and financial security requirements.
  • Experience in negotiating leases.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies pertaining to management of state-owned aquatic lands.

Positions with permanent duty stations in King County receive an additional 5% added to their monthly base salary. The salary listed on this announcement reflects the additional 5%.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is expected for most office activities. When approved to return, staff are expected to report to their assigned duty station for work activities or may be approved for telework based on DNR’s telework policy.
