Information received from the background check is reviewed case-by-case and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.  Satisfactory physical condition, as evidenced by a county approved CDL physical examination, may be required prior to appointment to the position.  Core Daily Responsibilities: Assist with coordination and organization of workload, personnel, equipment and materials for deadlines and prioritizationAssist with leadership, training, direction and instruction of other employees as required. Perform efficient and safe execution of work for self, staff and the public. Utilize and assist in planning and deployment of traffic control devices in accordance with regulations for traveled ways.Ability to operate and navigate computers, programs and other similar electronic devices for documentation, communication and information gathering.Perform scheduled maintenance, corrective maintenance and customer service request (CSR’s).  generated from our computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).Maintain and repair equipment related to the sewer collection systems, treatment plants, residential grinder pumps, supporting facilities and water systems.Thoroughly document maintenance activities, assessment inspections and initiate purchase orders.   Operate utility and CDL vehicles, specialized industry trucks such as boom cranes, dump, high velocity cleaning, closed circuit televised sewer inspection, vacuum, and specialized equipment such as, aerial lifts, backhoe and forklift. Ability to tow and operate portable equipment, such as trailers, emergency generators, compressors, and pumping units. Read and interpret drawings, specifications and operation and maintenance manuals. Familiarity of a wide variety of hand and power tools, equipment and machinery utilized in the trades. A classification description with a more detailed list of essential function can be found here.QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Requirements:High School diploma or equivalency.Three (3) years of experience in the wastewater field or other related field i.e. public works construction, mechanical repair and maintenance of treatment plant, pump stations and collection systems equipment, construction, electronics, etc.  This can be cumulative experience from experience as a Pierce County employee or other employers.Additional education /training and/or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the classification may substitute on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS  Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s license with Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “A”(Tank Vehicle) endorsement within the first 12 months of employment. Pierce County will pay for the  required CDL training if needed, however employee is required to pay for the certification exam and license as well as subsequent re-certifications.All employees in the classification after twelve months must maintain a valid WA CDL Class “A”(Tank Vehicle) endorsement.Must obtain a Traffic Control (Flagging) Card, CPR, and First Aid Card within the first 6 months of employment.  APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS To be considered for this opportunity please:Complete and submit an online Pierce County Employment Application by selecting “APPLY” above or go to:   www.piercecountywa.org/jobs. Attach a resume and in place of a cover letter, answer all supplemental questions in detail.If you do not have internet access, you may visit your local public library or any WorkSource location and use their computers.Individuals needing accommodation in the application, testing process or need this job announcement in an alternative format may call Human Resources at (253) 798-7480, at least two days prior to the need.  At Pierce County, diversity, equity, and inclusion means commitment, not a single step.
