Position Title:

Fisheries Technician II – Permanent Seasonal (1 position available). Duration will be permanent, with the possibility of up to 60-day seasonal lay-off.

Agency/Location:

Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation – Prairie City, Oregon – Forrest Conservation Area Field Office

Responsibilities

  • Work under Field Crew Leader to implement projects on the Forrest, Oxbow and Dunstan Conservation Areas in addition to work through the John Day Basin Office.
  • Work is on Tribal, public, and private lands.  Work to include, but not limited to:
    • Riparian and upland fisheries enhancement projects including riparian planting.
    • Maintenance of grazing program infrastructure, irrigation systems, and stock water.
    • Upland habitat enhancement including juniper felling, hand piling and burning.
    • Control of noxious weeds with herbicides using backpack, ATV, and tractor sprayers
    • Fence building (barbed, smooth wire, and buck and pole)
    • Light carpentry
    • Small equipment maintenance (chainsaw, string cutter, pumps, skid steer, ATVs etc)
  • Work is from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (winter) and 6:00AM – 4:00PM (4 days a week in summer).

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Punctuality and a clean driving record with valid driver’s license are required. Drug testing to be performed if selected for the position.
  • At least 2 years of experience in field operations listed above.
  • Some experience or education in the biological sciences desired.
  • Knowledge of various fence building techniques, ATV/Skid Steer/Backhoe operation, and chainsaw work desired.
  • Ability to work outside for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs., walk over long distances over rough terrain, and work under inclement weather.

Salary & Benifits:  $14.00 – $16.00/hr starting salary. Includes medical/dental insurance, 401K, paid personal time off and paid holidays.
