What you will do:
As a seasonal Park Ranger 1, you’ll be on the front lines of visitor services, custodial maintenance, and park safety. You’ll perform the following:
Visitor Services
- Process online campsite reservations, process payments, and register overnight campers.
- Provide information about local attractions to visitors.
- Train and oversee the work of seasonal employees, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures related to campground operation and cash handling.
Custodial Maintenance
- Clean rest rooms, showers, bathhouses, observation buildings, and maintenance shops.
- Collect, separate, and properly dispose of garbage and recyclable materials.
Park Patrol, Safety, & Rule Enforcement
- Seek voluntary compliance with park rules and regulations.
- Render emergency aid and assistance to park visitors.
Additional Duties
- Maintain park grounds by planting, pruning, watering, and fertilizing.
- Maintain and repair building fixtures including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
- Perform utility maintenance and construction.
- Provide resource interpretation and conservation assistance.

- Skill and knowledge of basic park resources, facility operations, maintenance, and/or resource interpretation.
- Skill in listening to what people say and asking appropriate questions to obtain needed information.
- Experience enforcing park rules.
- Experience performing basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds-keeping tasks.
- Ability to show common courtesy while communicating with others.
- Skill in giving direction concerning work procedures to individuals or teams composed of volunteers and/or correctional facility inmates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
- OR an Associate’s degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
Special Requirements:
- Have a criminal history check and driving record check that meets OPRD criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment.
- Posses a valid driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.
- Must wear OPRD supplied uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty.
