Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is recruiting for a temporary full-time Research Specialist. Candidates looking for an internship opportunity are encouraged to apply. This position will be needed from May to July 2021. The Research Specialist will help with the completion of the AWC Salary and Benefit Survey. AWC is looking for a candidate with an interest in data, excellent customer service skills, and who will be highly motivated and detail oriented.
The AWC Salary and Benefit Survey is a voluntary survey conducted of cities and results are provided as a service for AWC members. These surveys assist in developing and setting salaries and benefits.
Position will be performed at the AWC office building in Olympia. AWC is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for employees and visitors to the AWC Office in accordance with state and federal law. Employees working at the AWC office will follow the COVID-19 protocols at all times, this includes wearing face mask, social distancing, and using hand sanitizing stations located throughout the building.
What you’ll be doing
- Verify survey results by evaluating responses and identifying outliers; correct data as needed
- Follow up with survey takers by email or phone to verify responses and/or encourage survey completion by the established deadline
- Test reporting feature to validate data and provide feedback on reporting format and value
- Assist with other research activities on topics such as city trends or fiscal conditions, as needed
What you bring to the team
- Associates degree in economics, statistics, business, administration, or a related field; experience may be substituted year-to-year for academic achievement
- 1 year experience in research, data, accounting, or related field (educational classes in these areas may count towards experience)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional and have the ability to learn and use a wide variety of proprietary software
- Strong methodologic and analytic skills
- Possess strong communication skills, articulate clearly both with the written and spoken word
- Must possess good time management skills and be self-driven by meeting deadlines and completing assigned tasks in the time assigned by the supervisor
- Ability to be flexible and open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple diverse work tasks - Ability to model the organization’s high standards of quality customer service to all internal and external customers
