The Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) develops and implements citywide environmental policies and programs that propel our city toward a sustainable, equitable, and carbon neutral future.

The Job

The Building and Energy Advisor develops plans, policies, and programs to achieve sustainable, energy-efficient, and carbon neutral buildings in Seattle’s public and private sectors.  This work prioritizes racial equity and environmental justice and aligns with our work to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Specifically, you will develop and implement Greenhouse Gas reduction and energy efficiency approaches and policies for commercial and multifamily building sectors.

• Doing research, thinking creatively, and finding new or refining current ideas to solve problems
• Using your understanding of building science and mechanical systems to reduce greenhouse gases

To accomplish this work, you will:

• Coordinate with OSE teammates and other City staff to ensure work alignment with current and planned policies and initiatives
• Build relationships and conduct outreach to building owners, tenants, community partners, and stakeholders to gather information and recommendations, identify strategies, and to provide information and support
• Research and develop new policy and program options
• Implement and manage new policies and programs
• Manage and analyze data from multiple sources to evaluate current work and find opportunities for better more equitable environmental and economic outcomes
• Develop communications and outreach materials
• Identify and pursue funding opportunities
• Draft legislation and shepherd it through the City’s legislative process

• Project management
• Policy or program analysis and development

• Community engagement with BIPOC communities, immigrants, and refugees
• Working constructively with energy professionals, building owners, tenants, and other stakeholders
