The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, located on the western slopes of Washington’s Cascade Mountains, is recruiting for two Student Conservation Corps Aquatics crew members to work from June 7 – September 24, 2021. We are seeking candidates with a desire to work outdoors, engage the public with these wild places, and may want a career in public land management. Members receive a one time $650 round trip travel allowance, $250 weekly living allowance, housing at the ranger station, eligibility for a $1,638 AmeriCorps education award, and an exceptional life/ career experience. Application period is open until positions are filled.

The crew will focus on gathering stream data in the Upper Green and Snoqualmie River watersheds as part of large scale watershed restoration and fishery conservation planning effort. The field data collected by the interns will provide important information on stream and riparian conditions and the need to understand legacy impacts that are impairing water quality and aquatic habitat function. The SCA individual placements will supply the Forest and community partners with critical information that can be efficiently analyzed during the collaborative design of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem restoration at whole watershed/landscape scales.

All safety gear such as orange vests, hardhats, specialized stream boots, and communication devices will be provided by the U.S. Forest Service. The participants will attend the U.S. Forest Service stream inventory training (week of June 14) to obtain the skills needed to complete the work. U.S. Forest Service vehicle will be provided for work-related travel. Work schedule is typically Monday-Thursday (4 days weeks), 10 hour days with some flexibility. Hours will generally be 7:00am – 5:30pm.
