Temporary Fisheries Employment Opportunity

ODFW Mission: To protect and enhance Oregon’s fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

Location:  Based out of Big Creek Hatchery, Oregon. Work to be conducted primarily on Clatskanie River and Bear Creek.

Anticipated Duration:

March 1, 2021 – June 30, 2021, Chum Salmon Monitoring Assistant (one temporary position)

Job Description: What you will do: The employees in these positions will assist in field studies on the Chum Salmon Reintroduction Project collecting data on juvenile salmonids. Principal duties will include processing fish at sites that trap juvenile salmonids. Office work will include entering field data into a computer database.

These positions require a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. These positions will include weekend and some night work. These positions may be physically demanding. Employees will occasionally be working independently under adverse weather conditions in semi-remote areas.

Requirements/Requested Skills: Minimum qualifications are not established for these positions; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience (e.g., experience handling and tagging juvenile salmonids, operating and maintaining fish traps and equipment, identifying juvenile salmonids, and keeping neat and precise field data) and who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences will be given preference for interviews.

Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state certified driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist. Adverse background information may disqualify you from further consideration.
