Field Foresters – NRS1 (Job Rotation/Limited Duration)
Job Description:

These positions are currently being offered as either a Limited Duration appointment for anyone to apply OR as a statewide Job Rotation to all permanent, current State of Oregon employees (this is includes regular status and limited duration employees who have completed trial service). State of Oregon job rotations require employer approval.
What will you do?
You will perform a wide variety of manual tasks in the areas of fuels reduction and timber stand improvements through thinning, piling and burning of fuels. You will accomplish work on USFS National Forest projects under the Good Neighbor Authority agreement, assist with grant implementation on private forestland, and provide assistance to respective foresters as needed. These positions will assist the USFS in accomplishing their management goals including but not limited to timber sale planning, pre-commercial thinning, piling, assisting with prescribed burning, both piles and broadcast, and brushing roads. In addition, you will perform fire suppression duties as needed. You are expected to have or be able to acquire FFT1 or higher ICS fire qualification(s) upon hire, successfully complete ICS S-212, and be able to perform firefighting duties as needed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Forest Management or related field; OR
-
Three years of experience in Forestry, Forest Management or related field.
-
Experience working with Oregon Forest Practices Act.
-
Experience working with forestry prescriptions and forest grant implementation.
-
Skilled at leading others conducting forestry activities.
-
Qualified as Firefighter (FFT1) or higher.
-
Experience using chainsaws.
-
Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.
