Job Description:

This position is currently being offered as either a Limited Duration appointment for anyone to apply OR as a statewide Job Rotation to all permanent, current State of Oregon employees (this includes regular status and limited duration employees who have completed trial service).  State of Oregon job rotations require employer approval.

What will you do?  

You will provide overall support to the Federal Forest Restoration (FFR) Program to design, implement, and administer multiple components of the Program. The purpose of the FFR Program is to partner with the US Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to increase the pace, scale and quality of restoration treatments on federal forestlands. You will staff the Salem office and your position duties will include a field component to identify and implement partnership opportunities on federal forestlands west of the Cascades. You will intersect with field staff in the Northwest Oregon Area and staff of the USFS and BLM. You will be responsible for identifying, developing and coordinating project activities that integrate the capacities of the Department, contractors and federal land management agencies. You will also provide support to the Department’s engagement on federal forest policy issues, including both administrative and legislative policy actions. You will have to develop relationships with federal agency partners, stakeholders, local collaborative leaders and participants and represent the agency in select instances.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

  • Six years of experience in forestry or closely related natural resource field. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related natural resource field and three years of forestry or closely related natural resource experience. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities. Note: Master’s degree in Forestry or closely related natural resource degree will substitute for up to one year of the required experience. Doctorate degree in Forestry or closely related natural resource degree will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.

  • Working knowledge of forest management technology and recommended best management practices.

  • College-level training in a natural resource management discipline or enough work experience to provide equivalent knowledge.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.

  • Proven experience as an excellent communicator who is honest, fair and inclusive among employees, partners and stakeholders.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills including working with partners, operators, landowners, and the general public in communicating technical information and prescriptive standards.

  • Experience providing education and outreach to a variety of users such as landowners, operators, and other agencies in classroom/workshop and/or field tour settings etc.

  • Experience writing forest management plans or treatment prescriptions.

  • Knowledge of state and federal program statutes, rules, guidelines and policies.

  • Working knowledge of GIS applications and ability to manipulate data.

  • Working knowledge of fire management and fire suppression techniques.

  • Ability to work in a team setting.

  • Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and emerging issues.
