This position is currently being offered as either a Limited Duration appointment for anyone to apply OR as a statewide Job Rotation to all permanent, current State of Oregon employees (this is includes regular status and limited duration employees who have completed trial service).  State of Oregon job rotations require employer approval. This position is located in the Fire Protection Division with the Oregon Department of Forestry located in Salem.  

What will you do?  

Assist the Division’s Fire Program Analyst in developing and coordinating the Division’s wildfire-related GIS data and projects, and help develop guidelines, policies and standards as well as training products and services.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Candidates who demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

  • Four (4) years of information systems experience in Geographic Information System
    OR

  • An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field,
    OR

  • Completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND two (2) years of information systems experience in GIS.
    OR

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.

  • Detail oriented and organizational skills to create, edit, quality-control, and coordinate GIS data and metadata for use in desktop, online, and mobile computing environments

  • Experience with the ESRI suite of GIS desktop software and online services, and all standard GIS data types and processes

  • Ability to research, interpret, process, analyze, and convert a variety of data types for GIS interoperability

  • Database, spreadsheet, graphic and word processing skills, and ability to navigate within computing networks and online/internet environments

  • Ability to communicate effectively through all interactions, reports, process and other technical documentation, and professional cartographic products

  • Interest in the potential for wildland fire incident GIS support at the field level (GPS and GIS), mobile environment

  • Motivation to work independently to meet deadlines while producing accurate work

  • Ability to provide statistical data query and processing support

  • Ability to respond with short notice and stay for limited durations throughout the state, (primarily during the busy fire season)

  • Ability to handle routine, scheduled work, but also to handle occasional high stress situations in a diplomatic and positive manner

  • Positive outlook and good sense of humor

  • Orientation toward creative and innovative solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.
