The Northwest Montana Outreach Coordinator will provide leadership, coordination and oversight of the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness (FSPW) outreach and community building in efforts in southern Lincoln and western Sanders Counties, Montana. We’re looking for an individual with a connection to the land and a passion for conservation. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to manage logistics, volunteers, and materials with an eye to detail. We are looking for someone with exceptional written and oral communication skills. This person must enjoy building connections with a wide range of people. This is a mostly remote position but living in Northwest Montana is required. Candidates living in Libby, Troy, Thompson Falls, Trout Creek, Heron or surrounding areas are ideal.

Outreach, Education, and Community Engagement ~70%

• Manage outreach events in Lincoln and Sanders counties; give presentations as needed
• Work closely with partners to plan and implement the annual Kootenai Harvest Festival
• Attend and participate in partner meetings and events
• Coordinate Winter Tracks events in Lincoln and Sanders counties
• Coordinate volunteer-led group summer and winter hikes and outdoor education field trips
• Support FSPW’s annual high school scholarship program

Communications ~20%

• Craft and send out press releases and listserv messages for Lincoln and Sanders Counties
• Develop content and assist in management of social media pages
• Source, record, and produce content for Your Wild Place podcast
• Develop content and assist in management of website using WordPress
• Distribute collateral materials in local area

Fundraising and Development ~5%

• Support Montana-focused grant applications, reporting, and tracking

Other ~5%

• Position may support youth outdoor education programs and trail stewardship program in Montana depending on successful candidate
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability to manage multiple projects and programs simultaneously
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members
• Attention to detail and strong organization skills
• Aptitude for working well with others, building relationships within and external to FSPW
• Ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage several tasks at once
• Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills
• Adept at learning new technology quickly
• Proficient with Microsoft 365 and G-Suite

Secondary Qualifications

• Experience coordinating event logistics
• Experience collaborating with colleague and other stakeholder groups
• Understanding of effective communication strategies for both print and digital environments
• Experience with website management via WordPress, cloud-based file storage, internal communication tools such as Slack, and work-flow management tools such as Asana
• Familiarity with constituent relationship management (CRM) software
• Previous non-profit experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Existing connections to the communities of Troy/Libby, Thompson Falls/Trout Creek/Heron
• Passion for the Scotchman Peaks and/or conservation of public lands
