We have a vacancy ready for the right candidate to join us as a key member of the the Small Forest Landowner Office team that works within the Forest Practices Division. The job is based in Olympia, but serves small forest landowners throughout the state.
Responsibilities:
As the Small Forest Landowner Conservation Easement Program Manager, you will use your organizational skills and drive to accomplish the goals of the program. You will work as the statewide program manager for the Rivers and Habitat Open Space Program, and be relied upon as the program expert for developing and overseeing the timber cruising programs used as the basis for establishing conservation easement values in both the Forestry Riparian Easement Program and the Rivers and Habitat Open Space Program. Working in both office and field settings, you’ll have regular opportunities to interact with other natural resource professionals and with a diverse set of private forest landownersWho are we looking for?The right candidate has:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Science/Management or closely related field and at least 3 years professional experience practicing forest management skills.
- College course or six (6) months experience in both cartography using ARC/INFO or ARG/GIS and in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Experience with general forest management theory and practices including timber cruising methods and procedures; as well as measurement and marketability by species, grade, and defect.
- Experience using software designed to gather and report timber cruise data.
- Experience collecting data using a Global Positioning System (GPS) in a forest setting.
- Experience creating a GIS database using mapping software.
- Experience in preparing and administering forest management contracts.
- Experience in resource protection buffer layout in a forested setting.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical information to a wide variety of audiences including small forest landowners.
- Working knowledge of business support software, Microsoft Office.
- This position requires driving as an essential function. Essential means that driving is a fundamental, crucial part of this position and not a marginal function.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of delineation of Channel Migration Zones and critical habitat for state listed threatened or endangered species.
- Current working knowledge of WA state forest practices statutes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and agency practices.
- Experience with land transaction process (title examination, valuations, closing process, etc.).
- Excellent public speaking skills.
- Highly motivated toward accomplishing set goals.
- Convey messages clearly and persuasively.
- Experience working with small forest landowners.
