Metro Parks Tacoma (MPT) is a CAPRA-accredited and AZA-accredited, independent park district that leads efforts to build a healthy, sustainable community. Metro Parks Tacoma is located in Tacoma, Washington. The system is comprised of many different park facilities that offer residents a variety of recreational opportunities. From waterfront access to local neighborhood parks to large regional facilities and attractions, the MPT system is both a local community asset and regional destination.

Primary work will be with school aged youth, in an afterschool club setting.

- Essential Duties
-
- Plan, organize, and implement youth services activities including but not limited to arts & crafts, science experiments, games, nature walks, sports, theater and songs.
- Supervise and positively manage all assigned groups of children.
- Ensure compliance with all COVID 19 and other applicable safety protocols/procedures.
- Provide a safe, fun and engaging atmosphere for camp participants.
- Be actively involved with children and engage in activities at all times.
- Work closely with other employees in an enthusiastic, cooperative and supportive manner; ensure collaboration with all staff.
- Participate in the administration of the food program, according to USDA grant guidelines with inventory, contribute to tracking, and distribution of lunches and snacks.
- Develop positive, supportive relationships with participants, parents & the public.
- Prepare information and promotional materials for assigned site; overseeing inventory and tracking of equipment and supplies; and maintaining records and preparing reports.
- Represent Metro Parks Tacoma professionally at all times.
- Enforce discipline as needed.
- May be required to drive a 15 passenger van.
- Perform emergency first aid and CPR as needed and according to established guidelines; provide for proper safety of participants in recreational programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
-
Must be available to work the entire assigned season; Fall, Winter/Spring, Summer.
Must be able to attend the mandatory training and orientation.
Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a GED or HS diploma to work with K-5th populations and at least 21 years of age to work with teen populations. Preference for these positions given to those at least 21 years of age and/or those seeking Full Time seasonal positions.
Must have a valid First-Aid and CPR cards before date of employment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
Must have leadership skills with ability to be a team player.
Must be creative, energetic and patient.
Must have at least two years of working with children ages 5-12 or teen youth.
Ability to speak Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese and/or Cambodian desired.
Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record to drive a 15 passenger van. - Additional Information

HOURS: Hours may vary up to 29 hours per week.

Recreational facilities and park environment involving indoor and outdoor assignments.PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Seeing to prepare written or typed recreational and leisure program material and monitor activities.
Hearing and speaking to conduct classes and exchange information.
Walking over rough or uneven surfaces outside in park locations and on field trips.
Lifting up to 25 pounds.
Standing for extended periods of time.
