Responsibilities

– Provides oversight of the park-wide wilderness volunteer, river volunteer, and Going to the Sun bike volunteer program.
– Serves as the wilderness volunteer supervisor and coordinator assuring the recruiting, retention, training, scheduling, and monitoring of all the activities within the work unit.
– Coordinates between the park wilderness coordinator, district rangers, area rangers, district wilderness rangers, trail crew, IPM crew, resource management staff, park partners, and other work groups, utilizing the wilderness volunteers to support district needs concerning wilderness operations.
– Participates in bike, foot, and river patrols. Develops possible projects based on field patrols and information from other work units.
– Leave no trace principals, the preservation and improvement of Glacier’s wilderness character, and fostering a message of resource stewardship for park visitors, are the focus of the work unit and daily operations.
– Coordinates the support of the wilderness, river, and bike volunteers performing Preventive Search and Rescue (PSAR), and assists district operations and emergency incident management where appropriate and needed.
