The Nature Conservancy is a global conservation organization dedicated to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. Guided by science, our teams create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world’s toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together. The California Chapter is searching for a Preserve Associate to manage on-the-ground operations of our newest (and largest!) Tehachapi Preserve. The Tehachapi Preserve is comprised of a network of working cattle ranches with a wide variety of habitat types and stewardship challenges. The Preserve Associate will be responsible for maintaining important relationships (with neighbors, tenants, and local stakeholders), managing a diverse array of contracts, ensuring infrastructure is well managed to support economically viable cattle grazing in an ecologically compatible manner, and restoration of a variety of habitats including oak woodland and riparian plant communities. The Tehachapi Preserve team will seek to use a combination of proven tools and innovative approaches to maximize species ability to freely move through this landscape-scale preserve to rapidly adapt to climate change, complete annual migrations and disperse from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the coastal mountain ranges of central and southern California. This position must be located in the greater Bakersfield or Tehachapi area.

Every position at TNC is a chance to leverage the voices within the communities in which we work. See our TNC Values Statement here for more information. We work hard to make conservation a non-partisan issue through partnerships with stakeholders, elected officials, and industries that span the political spectrum.
