TITLE:        Chehalis Restoration Project Manager

DEPARTMENT: Western Water and Habitat Program

REPORTS TO: Luke Kelly (WA Coast Project Manager)

SALARY RANGE:    $50,000 – 60,000 / year, salary negotiable

POSITION SUMMARY

TU is hiring a motivated and highly capable person to facilitate and execute habitat restoration and reconnection projects in the Chehalis River Watershed in Washington State. This project manager will take projects from start to finish: developing project concepts, obtaining project funding, and managing project implementation.

TU has secured two years of funding for this position. The successful applicant will work with TU staff and stakeholders to secure additional funding for project activities and to cover core operational costs to sustain the program in future years.

The Project Manager will be located in a TU office in or near the Chehalis Basin (location is flexible, including home office) and will be required to travel throughout the 2,600 square mile Chehalis Basin and to occasional staff meetings and conferences outside the state.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Work closely with TU staff and Washington Coast partners, stakeholders, and communities to develop and implement habitat restoration and reconnection projects.

• Attend periodic Chehalis Basin salmon recovery Lead Entity meetings and Chehalis Basin Aquatic Species Restoration Program meetings to provide project updates, learn about project/funding opportunities, and network with local and regional partners.

• Work with local/regional partners and TU staff to fundraise for both program and project support, including identifying potential funding sources, drafting grant proposals, and developing relationships with funders.

• Manage on-the-ground construction for restoration/reconnection projects and develop and implement monitoring plans.

• Perform administrative duties including contracting, grant reporting, invoicing, and budget management.

• Coordinate with TU staff and TU members to support science-based advocacy for salmon and steelhead conservation, as needed.

• Participate in WA TU Council meetings, and periodically participate in chapter meetings.

• Media work, including writing content for TU’s social media platforms.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Bachelors or advanced degree

• At least 2 years of experience working in the field of natural resource management, fish conservation, and/or aquatic habitat restoration

• Understanding of natural resource management issues relevant to the conservation of trout and salmon and their habitats in Washington State

• Demonstrable success working with diverse stakeholders and building partnerships, specific experience working with tribes and state and federal agency staff a plus

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to problem-solve and think creatively

• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Chehalis Basin and occasionally beyond for staff meetings, conferences, etc.

• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle

• Experience using MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Passion for TU’s mission

Desired

• Experience implementing habitat restoration projects and managing contractors

• Experience and/or familiarity with salmon and steelhead habitat restoration project funding sources

• Experience with community outreach and engagement

• Successful grant writing experience

• Passion for fishing
