The Nature Conservancy of California, the state’s most influential environmental organization, is seeking a financial and accounting professional with experience in managing and analyzing diverse financial portfolios and cradle to grave government grant administration.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience analyzing and managing financial data and producing clear reporting for a business unit, program and/or project to aid in strategic business decision making and resource management. Creative problem-solving skills, comfort in a fast-paced environment, self-motivation and a deep commitment to the mission of The Nature Conservancy are highly regarded. The right person will see this position as a key financial partner for our conservation programs, assisting to shape project results in a wide-reaching conservation organization with a demonstrated commitment to internal growth.

Your primary duty is to support conservation program staff to understand and manage their finances under complex non-profit financial accounting practices and systems. This person will also analyze variances between budget to actual results, identify trends and translate insights into management reports to help guide decision making. You will also have a demonstrated understanding of government grant accounting, a love of complex spreadsheets and data sets, and an innate ability to bring solutions to complex financial funding problems. The ability to remain calm under pressure, to gracefully manage competing deadlines, and enjoyment working with diverse individuals will bring success to this role.

The Finance Analyst/Grant Specialist is a key part of California’s Finance team. The new staff member will be supervised by a Senior member of the Finance team, depending on identified skill-set and program assignment. The desired position location is Sacramento, working out of the new Sacramento office building scheduled to be open February 2021, contingent on COVID-19 restrictions.
