General Summary

Provides support and assists with development and implementation of environmental programs, environmental monitoring, and analytical chemistry programs. Performs instrument analyses and sample collection on a wide variety of sample matrices in support of Energy Northwest (EN) and external client projects. Projects may be environmental in nature or encompass other areas of technical expertise including drug testing, procurement quality assurance, commercial grade dedication of materials, and lubricant condition monitoring. Calibrates, troubleshoots and maintains instruments, reviews data packages, and prepares technical reports. Writes, reviews, and revises instructions and SOPs.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

•Performs instrumental analysis on a wide variety of sample matrices in support of EN and external client projects. Prepares standards and reagents, performs calibration of instruments, investigates analytical problems, and performs maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments. Analytical methods performed include, EMIT drug screening; gas, ion and liquid chromatography; atomic, mass, infrared and UV spectroscopy; sample digestion, and wet chemistry. Works with a minimum of supervision. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

•Performs administrative and technical tasks as needed to fulfill overall job requirements depending upon the specific assignment. These include:
o Provides support and assistance with implementation and coordination of programs such as chemical control program, Safety Data Sheet database management, bulk chemical coordination, NPDES, SWTF operation and monitoring, and REMP.
o Performing analytical or radiochemistry laboratory QA/QC activities, records maintenance, reviewing data packages, and preparing technical reports.
o Monitoring and reporting on environmental performance.

•Performs environmental sampling, waste sampling, records sample collection information; properly package, preserve, and transport samples under existing sampling plans, SOP, and instructions.

•Manage Projects for Columbia Generating Station and external clients. Interfaces with clients for problem resolution.

•Writes, reviews, and revises laboratory SOPs, chemistry instructions, and plant procedures when requested.

•Performs an assigned function in the Emergency Response Organization to support station commitment to Emergency Preparedness. Completes annual training and exercise requirements and performs on-call duties.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or a related field, with a minimum of one year experience working in an analytical laboratory utilizing instrumental, analytical, and wet chemistry techniques. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

PAY RANGE:

Pay Rate: $31.20 per hour minimum to $38.99 per hour midpoint

Typically, selected candidates are hired at a salary rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
